When word of mouth slows down, the next job is on Google

A lot of sign shops grew on referrals and repeat customers. When referrals slow down, buyers are still searching: "sign companies near me" gets about 22,200 searches a month (Google Ads estimate). Instead of cold calls, door knocking or paying an agency for traffic that never calls, you're the shop they find while they're already looking.

Local SEO for sign companies: how I get your shop up the map

I set your Google profile up the way the top map shops have theirs: "Sign shop" as the main Google Business Profile category, which most of the top 3 use, a real name that says what you do, and a steady flow of reviews from every job. You can't move your shop, so the things you can change matter more, and that's what I set up to put you ahead of your local competitors.

  • Main category: Sign shop
  • A real name that says what you do
  • Reviews from every job

Commercial sign work is won on your website

Commercial buyers, GCs and property managers, search the sign type, like "channel letter signs" or "pylon signs", and the map shows only a few businesses. They click websites, and about half of the top Google results are sign companies' own sites, so those places are there for your shop to take. I take them with a page for each commercial sign type you make: named the way buyers search, showing your installs and the towns you cover, ending in a quote form for the job details. In my experience, a site built like that beats the directory listings holding the other half.

Ask me anything: send your shop for a free plan

How do I get my sign shop in the top 3 on Google Maps?

Ask every customer for a Google review, use "Sign shop" as your main category and keep your profile complete. More reviews went with a higher map place in every search in my study. Distance counts too, and you can't move your shop, so the rest matters more.

How do I get more Google reviews?

Ask every customer after the job, with a direct link to your review page. Don't buy reviews and don't ask only your happy customers: Google's rules ban paid reviews and asking only for positive ones.

Should I add "signs" or my town to my Google profile name?

No. Google says your name should reflect your business's real-world name, and adding unnecessary information isn't permitted. Shops with "sign" or their town in their real name did rank higher in my study, so it matters when you choose a name, not when you edit your profile.

Does this work for wrap shops?

Yes. The study counted every business with a sign, banner or vehicle-wrap category as a sign business.

What counts as a lead?

Any contact from a new customer: a call, a form, an email or a message. The 3 months start when the work goes live.

What does it cost?

$297 a month. If you don't get leads in 3 months, I work for free until you get them. It covers your Google profile, your website (a new website too), AI answers and national SEO.
